Up W7BRI 1120 Amp Pack Slideshow

Greetings,

I quickly threw this mod together while on a trip down to Gold Beach, OR last summer. The night before we went on a 104 mile mailboat trip up the Rogue River, I put a 35W Mirage 2 meter amplifier in a Pelican case, drilled some holes for power and antenna jacks, and attached my Yaesu VX-8 HT and Comet SBB-1 antenna to the box.

The last picture shows it in action... I had no problems hitting repeaters well up the river, even while being drenched with water. :-)

Before the trip, I didn't have time to install an in-line bulkhead connector for the Anderson PowerPoles, but Coax Seal worked fine.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Thanks & 73,

Left to right: HT input, power input, antenna output. I recently replaced the PowerPole bulkhead with one similar to this, but due to space issues I had to retain the round Bulgin PX0805 panel mount connector shown above. I really prefer the teardrop-shaped Bulgin PX0802's that I used for the radio jacks. Next time, I'll move the power jack to another side of the case...

Different view... I'm not a great photographer, but really like taking three quarter profile shots like this.

After I took this picture, I replaced the UHF female-to-female (SO239) adapter with a shorter one that lets me screw on a cap when I'm not using the antenna.

I screwed two UHF male-to-male (PL259) adapters onto the amp's input and output jacks. I put a yellow snap-lock glass fuse holder on the positive power cord.

Here's my VX-8 HT propped up against the amp. As you can see, the local 146.780 frequency was pretty busy that day...

This was taken shortly after we got soaked going through some rapids. No problemo...
