UNDER CONSTRUCTION. PLEASE CHECK BACK LATER.
Greetings,
When I started designing my new 1150 Packet + Radio Pack, I wasn't sure if the Pelican 1150 case would be big enough. Just in case I needed to go bigger, I also bought a Pelican 1200.
Although the 1150 case worked fine for my radio and packet modem, I discovered that the old 10.5AH Power-Sonic PSH-12100FR flame-retardant battery that used to be in my 1300 Radio Pack fit perfectly in the 1200 case. I added a 3A Guest Industrial 2603 charger, custom AC input jacks and two DC jacks. I'm considering squeezing in a modified USB charge adapter and USB bulkhead.
I was tempted to install a thin inverter on the lid and add an AC out jack, but that would add a lot of heat to the pack and drain its modest battery very quickly. Besides, the case is currently about 11.8lbs -- very close to its 12lb buoyancy rating...
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.
Thanks & 73,

Since the Guest battery charger does not retain AC juice that might pass through the input bulkhead (left), I decided to install the male adapter (pins) on the case and female adapter (sockets) on the custom AC cord. That way, people can't accidentally shock themselves if they don't plug into the pack before plugging into the mains. |

Here's the custom orange AC cord screwed into the case via a IP68-rated (waterproof) in-line panel mount adapter. |

Here's one of my custom DC jacks in a round bulkhead vs the teardrop one I usually use. I may Dremmel the hole bigger, install a USB charger bulkhead (see bottom picture) and perhaps move the DC jack to the right. |

The rugged Guest AC charger's ~13V output connects to a Red-Dee-2 PS-4 PowerPole splitter, which links it to the battery and both DC jacks. Theoretically, I could charge the internal battery at the same time as an external one -- but considering the 3A charge limit and the fact that I didn't include a battery integrator / isolator, that wouldn't be a great idea. Instead, I can just unplug the internal battery from the PS-4 when I want to charge an external one... |

The modified USB charger (right) and USB bulkhead would barely fit between the battery and right case wall, but I'm not sure if I want to expand the DC jack or add another hole to the pack. Instead, I might just store the USB charger with PowerPole ends inside the case and plug it into the right side DC jack when I need to charge a USB device. |

Delp's Awards just engraved this... I'm going to re-do all of my power pack labels in red instead of black to save the cost / space of a separate red label to indicate that a battery, etc. is inside. This is especially good for the 1200 and 1300 power packs, because they have no space for a callsign label. On the 1430 and 1440 packs, the callsign will be red as well as the main label. |
